Tamworth-based Stockmaster Pty Ltd, bought in 2010 by Robert Cavanagh of Cavanagh’s Transport, Inverell, operates a modern fleet of predominantly B-Double configured trucks servicing clients primarily throughout New South Wales and Queensland.

A unique feature of Stockmaster’'s operations is its ability to offer a ‘cattle warehousing service’ for customers by virtue of its own large set of cattle yards in Tamworth.

The facility enables customers to assemble small lots acquired from different properties or saleyards in the yards until they have a full load for delivery elsewhere, and to coordinate the delivery of cattle to a time that suits their needs.

“For example abattoirs or feedlots or producers may not want cattle delivered for a couple of days because it may be too hot or two wet, so we can hold them here, or they can operate out of various saleyards buying small lots and then when we get a full load we can deliver them wherever they have to go,” principal Robert Cavanagh explained.

Stockmaster’s property at Tamworth is also used to grow lucerne to provide hay for stock being held in the transit facility.

After building up the Cavanagh’s Transport business at Inverell over almost 30 years, Mr Cavanagh purchases the large Stockmaster business at Tamworth in October 2010 to expand his client base and increase the geographic spread of his business. The two operate independently. 

“Stockmaster operates mainly within NSW and Queensland, while Cavanaghs does all the road train and B-Triple work, and covers a big spread including the Northern Territory and North Queensland down to Victoria,” he said.

Mr Cavanagh said a decision four years ago to invest in Advanced Fatigue Management Accreditation for both operations had led to significant gains in flexibility, driver satisfaction and overall efficiency.
