New electronic NVD promises an easy, paperless solution

Beef Central, 06/07/2020

A third-party provider has recently received approval to launch what it describes as a ‘game changing’ digital mobile National Vendor Declaration platform to help improve Australia’s livestock traceability system.

AXIchain chief executive Linda Woodford said her company had developed a completely online and offline digital paperless mobile-friendly eNVD for Australia’s red meat and livestock industry.

“This is a key piece of software to enable complete providence and traceability data for supply chain systems,” she said.

There are about 64.5 million registered livestock transfers in Australia every year, with around 90pc currently declared via a paper-based system, in triplicate.

“The paper based NVD is inefficient and places strain on parts of the supply chain,” Ms Woodford said. “Digitising this document will see millions in cost savings across the industry and minimise risk to the livestock and red meat traceability system.”

She said AXIchain had developed the mNVD to address the risk of paperwork errors in the livestock supply chain, and to help protect Australia’s reputation as an export-focused nation for providing safe, clean and natural red meat to the world.

The company’s mobile-friendly National Vendor Declaration (mNVD) was compliant with industry and state law enforcement agencies. It works online and offline and integrates with transporters, agents, buyers, saleyards and processors.

“It’s a one-stop shop for livestock movement, at the user’s fingertips,” Ms Woodford said.

The technology uses an exclusive QR code system that ensures that data as true and accurate for all movement details, even in offline situations.

Meat & Livestock Australia’s Integrity Systems Company granted AXIchain the mNVD license in last month.

Accompanying the mNVD, AXIchain is providing digitised production management software aimed at enhancing the quality of livestock production, which connects to the AXIchain’s existing export commodity trading platform underpinned by blockchain smart contracts, a digital bill of lading and automated logistics management.

“AXIchain is providing the end-to-end visibility of food products needed in the commodity trading environment of the future,” Ms Woodford said.

Our mobile-friendly software is entirely paperless. There is no need to print as our exclusive QR code technology allows transporters to carry a consignment number and signature on their smart device, making it compliant in all states,” she said.

“Our mission is to create a paperless livestock and red meat supply chain, from farm to destination port and beyond.”

Earlier industry-developed versions of eNVDs have attracted mixed reactions from users, with claims that they were cumbersome and difficult to use.

  • The mNVD app will be available to download from Google Play and iTunes soon, or users can simply use their web browser.
