Part of a line of 191 Purebred Wagyu feeder steers 358kg at 20-23 months from Westmar on the Darling Downs, that made 662c/kg during the inaugural Wagyu commercial sale on Monday
WHAT may be Australia’s first dedicated Wagyu and Wagyu-infused commercial cattle sale has been held online, with solid results achieved for a total clearance of close to 400 head.
Entries in the sale held on Monday through StockLive’s Commercial Platform ranged from well-bred Purebred feeder steers to F1 backgrounder weight steers and heifers, weaners and some joined Purebred cows and calves.
Initiated by the Australian Property & Livestock agency network, this initial sale was very much an exploratory exercise, but the strong result will see a second monthly sale take place on 20 November, with more planned for next year.
Wagyu infused commercial cattle occasionally get sold in routine weekly sales on online platforms, but tend to get lost among the mass of conventional breed entries without any particular focus on ‘Wagyu.’
The eight lots sold on Monday attracted close to 20 registered bidders, with up to 30 bids logged on some lines. Buyers range from backgrounders and restockers to feedlots.
One of the feature lots was 191 Purebred Wagyu feeder steers from Fucheng Australia, Westmar, Queensland. Averaging 358kg at 20-23 months, they sold for 662c/kg to a prominent Wagyu lotfeeder and beef exporter.
F1 backgrounder cattle also attracted strong competition from another well-known Wagyu backgrounder and lotfeeder. F1 steers topped at 630c/kg for a line averaging 314kg at 13-15 months from Wallangra, NSW.
F1 heifers reached 616c/kg for a line averaging 316kg from the same district, with all sold heifer lots averaging 573c/kg.
Purebred Wagyu joined cows with calves at foot sold to a local producer for $1760 per head.
The dedicated sale gave APL agents and their clients direct access to a targeted national buyer audience.
Competitive bidding triggered extensions across several lots after timers began at 3pm, yet the sale concluded within ten minutes – demonstrating the efficiency of StockLive’s staggered lot closure. Extensions apply only to lots receiving bids, allowing buyers to move efficiently between active lots while preserving competitive tension.
- APL is inviting bookings for its next 20 November Wagyu & Wagyu-infused commercial sale.
