THE Australian Beef Sustainability Framework (ABSF) is seeking expressions of interest from experienced sustainability professionals to join its Steering Group, with three independent environmental, social and governance (ESG) expert positions available from January 2027.

The successful applicants will help shape sustainability measurement and reporting across the Australian beef industry, providing independent expertise to support the ongoing development of the ABSF and its annual reporting.

The ABSF provides a transparent, evidence-based assessment of the Australian beef industry’s sustainability performance across four key themes: Best Animal Care, Environmental Stewardship, Economic Resilience, and People and the Community.

The Steering Group provides strategic oversight of the Framework and advises Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC) on the sustainability indicators and metrics reported through the ABSF.

Successful applicants will contribute to the development and review of sustainability indicators, materiality assessments, gap analyses and the ABSF Annual Report.

Cattle Australia Deputy Chair, Adam Coffey, said the independent experts would play an important role in ensuring the ABSF remained credible, relevant and responsive to emerging sustainability priorities.

“The ABSF brings together evidence and data from across the beef value chain to provide a clear picture of industry progress and identify areas requiring further attention,” Mr Coffey said.

“We are looking for people who can provide objective, informed and constructive input and help ensure the Framework continues to meet the needs of industry and its stakeholders.

“This is an opportunity to contribute specialist knowledge and practical experience to one of the Australian beef industry’s key sustainability initiatives.”

The Steering Group includes representatives from Cattle Australia, the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association, the Australian Meat Industry Council, MLA and AMPC, together with independent ESG experts.
