DUST, determination, and camaraderie took centre stage on Saturday, 30 August, as the second annual JBS Combined Feedlot Community Campdraft brought together feedlot teams, industry partners, and local supporters for an exciting weekend in Dalby.

The invitational event drew a great response, attracting more than 180 competitors from feedlots across the Western Downs and beyond. Competitors traded feedlot laneways and pens for the arena, battling it out across the Feedlot Teams Draft, Novice Draft, and Cut Out events.

The big winner was the JBS Mungindi feedlot.

For competitors, the campdraft offered more than just friendly competition and a showcase of horsemanship. It provided an opportunity for feedlot teams, suppliers and industry partners to come together, strengthen relationships, and celebrate their shared connection to cattle, horses and the grain fed beef industry.

Open Team winner Allan McNaulty, part of the victorious JBS Mungindi team, views the event as a major highlight on their calendar.

“Campdrafting and the cattle industry go hand in hand,” Allan said.

“It’s always enjoyable to put your skills to the test, spend time with like-minded people, and step away from the day-to-day routine.”

JBS Feedlots Manager Scott Minnikin echoed the sentiment and said the event was created to recognise the people who contribute to the success of the grain fed beef supply chain.

“Our grain fed business is built on strong partnerships, from our suppliers and customers to the dedicated people working within our feedlots every day,” Scott said.

“This event is an opportunity to bring everyone together, recognise their contribution, and celebrate the communities and relationships that make our industry so strong.”

Beyond the arena, the weekend also provided an opportunity to give back to the communities that support the grain fed beef industry. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and competitors, JBS proudly donated $5,000 to national mental health organisation, Beyond Blue.

“We’re proud to support the important work Beyond Blue does across our nation, including rural and regional Australia,” Scott added.

Following another successful year, JBS is already looking ahead to the future of the event.

“The response from suppliers, competitors and industry supporters has been fantastic,” Scott said.

“We’re proud to provide an event that brings the industry together and we’re already looking forward to building on its success in the years ahead.”
