COLD fronts and low pressure systems moved across southern parts of the country at the start of the week, bringing moderate daily rainfall totals.
Weekly rainfall totals greater than 15mm were recorded across parts of south-west Western Australia and southern South Australia, most of central and eastern Victoria extending into eastern New South Wales, and western Tasmania. Falls between 25mm to 50mm were recorded across alpine areas of Victoria and western Tasmania.
A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea directed moist onshore winds to the east coast generating some light to moderate rainfall across Queensland and New South Wales.
Weekly rainfall totals greater than 10 mm were recorded across coastal areas of New South Wales and Queensland, with falls of 25 to 50 mm in the Northern Rivers district of New South Wales and the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district in Queensland.
An upper level low moved across South Australia later in the week and brought light and patchy showers to central parts of the mainland.
Weekly rainfall totals of 10 to 25 mm were recorded in parts of southern Northern Territory and northern South Australia.
The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) of 126.6 mm was recorded at Mount Read in Tasmania.
The highest daily total (at a Bureau gauge) of 47.0 mm was recorded at Minnie Water (Pump Shed) in New South Wales in the 24 hours to 9 am on 17 August 2026.
