WESTERN Australian cattle producers are encouraged to register for upcoming face-to-face consultation meetings as part of the national Cattle Transaction Levy Review.
The Cattle Transaction Levy Review Committee will visit Bunbury and Perth later this month to hear directly from grassfed cattle producers about the current levy arrangements, the performance and value of levy investments, and how the levy system can best support a profitable, productive and sustainable cattle industry into the future.
The WA gatherings are part of a schedule of 27 remaining regional town hall meetings planned for all states and the Northern Territory between tomorrow and the end of August.
The upcoming in-person consultation meetings in WA are scheduled for:
- Tuesday 28 July – Bunbury, VAT 2, 9am
- Tuesday 28 July – Ingot Hotel, Belmont, 4pm
Cattle Transaction Levy Review Committee western representative Dean Ryan said the WA consultation meetings were a critical opportunity for local producers to help shape the future of levy investment.
“Western Australian producers operate across some of the most diverse production systems in the country, and their perspectives are essential to making sure the levy remains practical, accountable and fit for purpose,” Mr Ryan said.
“This review is about listening to the people who pay the levy and understanding where they see the greatest value, whether that is in research and development, marketing, biosecurity, market access, animal health or other industry-good priorities.”
“I encourage WA producers to come along, ask questions and share their views. The stronger the producer input, the stronger the recommendations that can be put forward later this year.”
“There will be further WA regional consultation opportunities, with details to be confirmed as the review progresses,” Mr Ryan said.
The review is examining whether the current cattle transaction levy remains fit for purpose, delivers value for levy payers and continues to support the long-term needs of Australia’s grassfed cattle industry.
Feedback gathered through the consultation process will help inform recommendations to be developed by the Review Committee for levy payers to consider later this year.
