NLRS Commentary:
Cattle numbers at Roma climbed to a very high level of 11,547 head with numbers boosted by the annual weaning programme. Overall, the quality could be described as above average with good samples of all categories represented. Buyers took advantage of the quality and large runs available and prices responded accordingly.
Yearling steers under 200kg topped 612c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 380c to 626c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg also topped 626c to average 552c/kg to restockers. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg made to 614c to restockers and 596c/kg to lotfeeders. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg sold to 572c/kg to lotfeeders. Yearling steers over 480kg sold to 564c to lotfeeders and 462c/kg to restockers.
Yearling heifers under 200kg topped 488c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg sold from 320c to 514c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made to 526c/kg to backgrounders. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made to 542c to restockers and 522c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 400-480kg sold to 492/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers over 480kg selling to 436c/kg to processors.
Grown steers 400-500kg sold to 562c to lotfeeders to average 488c/kg. Grown steers 500 to 600kg sold to 500c/kg to processors. Bullocks over 600kg made to 470c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg sold to 440c/kg processors.
With almost 2,300 cows penned the market did not reach the highs of the previous sale. The score 3 cows over 520kg made to 402c/kg to processors. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 230c to 370c/kg. Bulls over 600kg sold to 458c/kg to processors.

Highlights
This week’s Tuesday cattle sale marked a milestone moment for the Roma Saleyards, with a mammoth offering of over 11,500 head penned, making it the biggest yarding this year to date.
With more than 1800 head recorded on last week’s sale, under a blue sky there were packed laneways as buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders competed for consignments.
Cattle came from across western Queensland to go under the hammer, including the areas of Augathella, Barcaldine, Blackall, Innamincka, Morven, Longreach, Quilpie and Winton.
In addition to this, consignments travelled from McKinlay in the north, Dulacca, Miles, Taroom and Wandoan in the east and Dirranbandi, Hannaford and St George in the south.
Across the Maranoa supply district, cattle were drawn from many areas throughout the region, including Amby, Injune, Roma, Surat and Wallumbilla.
Among the highlights:
Glenrowan Grazing Co offloaded steers to 564c/kg, weighing in at 281kg and receiving a return of $1,587/hd.
Operating out of ‘Tipperary’, Morven, two pens of Angus cross steers fetched 584c/kg, with one pen averaging 289kg and making $1,690/hd and the other pen weighing 258kg and returning $1,508/hd.
Another two pens of Angus cross steers and one pen of Braford cross steers sold to 558c/kg.
The heavier pen of Angus cross steers weighed in at 306kg and received $1,708/hd and the pen of Braford cross steers averaged 239kg and made $1,335/hd.

K C Donohoe & Sons of Wandoan sold Angus cross steers and they fetched 611c/kg to weigh 287kg and return $1,756/hd.
With three pens of Angus cross steers on offer, two of the pens sold to 626c/kg.
One of the pens averaged 297kg and made $1,864/hd and the second pen weighed in at 275kg and received $1,725/hd.
The third pen of Angus cross steers sold to 572c/kg to weigh 296kg and make $1,696/hd.
The line was consigned through Grant Daniel and Long Roma.
Mt Hope Cattle Co offloaded steers to 555c/kg to average 400kg and receive a return of $2,224/hd.
Based out of ‘Mt Hope’, Wallumbilla, one pen of Droughtmaster cross steers fetched 564c/kg, weighing in at 432kg and receiving $2,441/hd.
Two further pens of Droughtmaster cross steers made 558c/kg, with the heavier pen weighing 416c/kg and making $2,325/hd and the other pen averaging 412kg and returning $2,300/hd.
The lines were consigned through Watkins & Company.
Bonanza Park Grazing Trust & Caw Family Trust sold steers at this week’s sale, fetching 559c/kg to average 312kg and return $1,748/hd.
Based out of ‘Burunga’, Wandoan, one pen of Charolais cross steers made 582c/kg to weigh in at 273kg and receive $1,592/hd.
Two pens of Santa Gertrudis cross steers sold to 570c/kg, with one pen averaging 323kg and making $1,844/hd and the second pen weighing 285kg and returning $1,630/hd.
The lines were consigned through Nutrien Ag Solutions Roma.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 612c/kg and averaged 540c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 626c/kg and averaged 552c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 626c/kg and averaged 552c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 614c/kg and averaged 526c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 572c/kg and averaged 520c/kg.
