AN ongoing project on Champion Station at Blackall is breaking new ground in the development of virtual fencing technology.
The satellite-based collars have been striking commercial success on intensive operations across the world – primarily on unutilised areas on farms and in cell grazing systems.
But the team at Russell Pastoral Operations, which runs Champion, have been taking the technology to a new level with a trial on 1000 cows being part of a three phased plan to expand the herd from 5000-6000 cows.
The company recently held a field day on the property to give a deeper insight into what the trial is all about – with representatives from one of the fastest growing virtual fencing companies, producers in the area and researchers from across the world.
