Yarding: 8,450 Change: -1850
NLRS Commentary:
Numbers eased to 8450 head of cattle for the Roma store sale this week. Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area and included some very good quality runs of yearlings from western and north west Queensland.
Orders heading every direction saw light weight restocker steers under 200kg selling to 626.2c and those 200 to 280kg lifted 10c to a top of 602.2c to average 570c/kg. Steers 280 to 330kg made to 590.2c to average 550c and restockers dominated steers 330 to 400kg topping at 600.2 with the average lifting by 7c to 551c/kg. Steers over 400kg to feed continued to strengthen lifting by up to 14c making to 554.2c to average 540c/kg.
Competition from interstate buyers held prices firm for ‘c’ muscle light weight restocker heifers 200 to 280kg with an exceptional run of British heifers selling to 570.2c with most around 494c, while secondary lines averaged 408c/kg. Heifers 280 to 330kg also made to 570.2c to average 499c/kg. Feeder buyers continued to pay a premium for preg tested empty heifers with those over 400kg selling to 542.2c to average 470c/kg.
Grown steers were few and far between and rates eased by 12c for steers 500 to 600kg selling to 444.2c to average 434c while good numbers of prime heavy heifers over 540kg saw prices lift by 5c to a top of 458.2c to average 435c/kg.
A large percentage of the cow yarding were in store condition and most categories of cows to the processor eased by 20c on last week. Restockers were active on store cows with those under 540kg to 352.2c averaging 315c while those over 540kg made to 362.2c to average 345c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows under 520kg sold to 380.2c to average 360c, 3 score cows over 520kg topped at 388.2c to average 378c and heavy prime 4 score cows eased 15c to a top of 410.2c to average 401c/kg. Heavy bulls bucked the trend lifting by 10c selling to 468.2c to average 420c/kg.
Large numbers of cows and calves were on offer with the top pen selling to $2475/unit.

Highlights
As the sun shone down over Roma Saleyards at this week’s Tuesday cattle sale, the regular buyers, feedlotters and backgrounders competed for the offering which consisted of over 8400 head.
While there was a reduction in numbers in comparison to last week’s mammoth yarding, there was once again many good quality runs of cattle on offer, with them travelling from across Queensland to go to market.
Cattle came from several areas throughout the north and the west, including Adavale, Augathella, Bedourie, Cloncurry, Eulo, McKinlay, Mt Isa, Torrens Creek and Winton.
Across the Maranoa supply district, consignments were drawn from areas such as Bargunyah, Injune, Jackson, Mitchell, Roma and Wallumbilla.
Mulga Ag Co Pty Ltd, based out of ‘Lussvale’, Bargunyah, sold one pen of Angus cross steers to 626c/kg, weighing in at 149kg and receiving a return of $933/hd.

Cecil James Russell of ‘Ingledoon’, Augathella, offloaded steers at this week’s sale, selling to 559c/kg to weigh 298kg and return $1,671/hd.
One pen of Santa Gertrudis steers sold to 602c/kg, averaging 243kg and making $1,466/hd.
A pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers fetched 542c/kg, weighing in at 378kg and returning $2,054/hd.
Also hailing from ‘Ingledoon’, Augathella, R.J and K.D Russell sold steers to 594c/kg to weigh 243kg and return $1,445/hd.
One pen of Santa Gertrudis steers sold to 602c/kg to average 209kg and receive $1,261/hd.
Another pen of Santa Gertrudis steers fetched 584c/kg to average 302kg and return $1,767/hd.
Cecil James Russell and R.J and K.D Russell’s cattle were both consigned through PJH Livestock & Property.
Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co Pty Ltd. of ‘Derbyshire Downs’, Augathella, sold Charolais cross steers, Angus cross steers and Santa Gertrudis cross steers at this week’s sale and altogether they fetched 558c/kg, weighing in at 350kg and receiving a return of $1,952/hd.
Three pens of Charolais cross steers fetched 560c/kg, with the heaviest pen weighing in at 353kg and making $1,981/hd.
Another pen of Charolais cross steers made 548c/kg to average 414kg and return $2,273/hd.
The pen of Angus cross steers sold to 552c/kg to average 340kg and return $1,877/hd, and the pen of Santa Gertrudis cross steers made 568c/kg to weigh 368kg and receive $2,090/hd.
The lines were consigned through TopX Roma.
Bam Pastoral sold steers at this week’s sale, selling to 555c/kg, weighing in at 256kg and receiving a return of $1,421/hd.
Based out of ‘Mooning’, Eulo, one pen of Droughtmaster cross steers fetched 572c/kg to average 246kg and make $1,411/hd.
Another pen of Droughtmaster cross steers sold to 566c/kg, to weigh 266kg and receive $1,508/hd.

A total of 8438 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.
Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 626c/kg and averaged 567c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 602c/kg and averaged 557c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 590c/kg and averaged 525c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 600c/kg and averaged 516c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 554c/kg and averaged 502c/kg.
