Steers firm to easier in larger 15,931 head online offering

Among larger lines sold this week were these 380 Braford backgrounder heifers 271kg at 10-16 months from Winton, western QLD, that made 389-391c/kg.

 

STEER values were firm to easier, while heifers mostly trended higher in c/kg terms on AuctionsPlus this week, where offering numbers grew 33pc to 15,931 head.

Despite the larger offering, the market delivered a clearance of 82pc, down 15 percentage points week-on-week.

Total head sold reached 12,994, up 12pc on the week prior, with 95pc of lots attracting a bid.

Southern NSW experienced strong local buying, with 51pc staying close to home, up 9pc on last week.

Steers saw an offering of 7117 head this week, clearing 88pc.

Despite only a small offering of 507 head, light steers less than 200kg lost 33c/kg to average 656c/kg, producing a 95pc clearance.

Steers 200-280kg were the most heavily offered line with 2470 head, clearing 89pc of the offering while averaging 613c/kg, up 8c week-on-week. Steers 280-330kg saw 2265 head offered at an 85pc clearance, averaging 594c/kg, back 8c.

Heavy feeder steers +400kg rose 3c to average 550c, while clearing 85pc of the 697 offered.

Highlights included 102 UltraBlack/Brahman cross steers 14-26 months averaging 426kg from Winton, QLD, returned 524c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Bedourie, QLD.

Heifers accounted for 5327 head offered with an 83pc clearance.

Heifers 200-280kg attracted an offering of 2284 head, clearing 86pc and averaging 505c/kg, back 20c week-on-week. Heifers 330-400kg offered 1414 head, clearing 84pc with prices averaging 507c, up 50c/kg on last week.

A line of 140 Angus heifers 9-10 months averaging 171kg from Ulamambri, NSW, returned 650c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Taralga, NSW.

Breeding females

Breeding females drew a catalogue of 2508 head at a 77pc clearance.

NSM cows averaged $1864/head from 159 head on a 100pc clearance, back $162 on the week. SM heifers offered 513 head at an 87pc clearance, averaging $2036/head, back $94 week-on-week. SM cows were a strong performer with 249 head clearing 100pc, averaging $2678/head, up $363 on the week.

NSM heifers and calves returned $3529/pair on average from 95 head at a 79pc clearance, while NSM cows and calves averaged $2568/pair from 196 head at 83pc, back $691 on the week. SM heifers and calves achieved a 100pc clearance from 54 head at $3351/head on average, up $1341 while SM cows and calves saw just 31 head offered at a 42pc clearance, averaging $2440.

55 Angus PTIC cows 5-6 years averaging 670kg from Narrabri, NSW, returned $2970  and will travel to a buyer near Moree, NSW.
