WIDELY respected and much loved Queensland meat processor Anthony (Tony) Nolan passed away this morning, following a recent battle with cancer.
Together with his brothers Michael and Terry, Tony was part of a formidable family team that built Gympie’s Nolan Meats into an innovative, powerhouse processing business, employing +600 staff and handling 700 head per day for domestic and export markets.
An engineer by training, he provided the technology smarts to gradually build Nolan Meats through a series of major expansions and upgrades from its humble beginnings killing a few cattle for local butchers 70 years ago, into the modern, highly-efficient plant it is today.
Readers will note that the Nolan family earlier this week agreed to terms to sell the Nolan meats business to Certified Organic red meat producer Hewitt.
Tony is survived by his wife Debbie, daughter Phoebe and son Ged, and families.
A funeral service will be held at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gympie from 11am on Friday 29 May.
A more complete tribute to Tony’s life and achievements will follow.
