Beef Central 04/04/2025

MORE than 600 seedstock and commercial cattle breeders, researchers and industry leaders from at least 26 countries are already registered to attend the 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum taking place in Australia in early May.

A leading global event for the Angus beef industry, the landmark event will highlight genetic advancements, sustainability and trade opportunities, positioning Australia at the forefront of the $500 billion global beef industry.

The forum takes place in Brisbane, Queensland in 7-8 May, preceded by the Zoetis Angus Expo cattle event in Tamworth, NSW on 3-4 May. Pre and post conference tours will be staged, starting in Sydney and finishing in outback Queensland, visiting feedlots, saleyards and cattle breeding properties. The post-congress tour is already fully-booked, but limited tickets are still available for the pre-congress tour.

The Tamworth Angus Expo will incorporate a two-day cattle exhibition – the largest registered Angus cattle exhibition ever held in Australia – providing breeders with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase their genetics on the world stage. Also part of the Expo will be a Cattle Breeders College, Cattle Chats, an Angus campdraft, the Angus low-and-slow BBQ competition, live music, Teys Australia Angus Shoot-Out Awards Dinner, Angus on Ice Genetics Sale and an Elite Female Sale.

“The 2025 World Angus Forum is a defining moment for the global beef industry—bringing together the world’s leading breeders, scientists and investors to drive the next decade of Angus genetics, sustainability and trade,” said World Angus Forum chair, Erica Halliday.

Erica Halliday

“With Australia at the forefront of breeding innovation and carbon-neutral beef production, the forum will set new standards for efficiency, profitability and environmental stewardship across international markets,” Ms Halliday said.

Australia’s role as one of the world’s largest beef exporters significantly impacts international markets, with Angus beef being a key player in exports to North America, Europe and Asia. The forum aims to explore market trends and growth projections in high-value markets, along with emerging trade agreements that may boost Angus beef exports.

World Class Speakers

Angus Australia President Sinclair Munro said excitement was building for the biggest event in Australian Angus history.

“The conference will include world-class speakers on a range of topics – success in business, leadership, marketing, branded beef programs, sustainability, why livestock and beef are critical for the world, latest genetic improvement technologies, control of ticks, and building resilience in business and life,” Mr Munro said.

Some of the key speakers will include Wallabies legend John Eales, MLA’s Michael Crowley, US Certified Angus Beef head John Stika, Dr Mariana Caetano, Dr Anneline Padayachee, Prof Ala Tabor and Michael McQueen.

The Brisbane forum will include a spectacular Gala dinner at The Star Casino.

Dr Mariana Caetano, from The University of Adelaide will deliver an update presentation on the use of asparagopsis-based feed additives. Australia is a world leader in the field of research into the adoption of bromoform as a means of eliminating methane from bovine production systems and an important component of The Australian Red Meat Industry’s Carbon Neutral by 2030 Roadmap.

Dr Caetano will outline the efficacy and performance of bromoform to date in various bovine production systems, with particular focus on the latest research conducted in extensive systems.

Speaking about the upcoming Forum, Mr Munro said Angus Australia had a history of engagement where the utilisation of technology and best practice create benefits for the environment, livestock and the consumer.

Angus Australia’s strategic role in genetics research, breeding programs and international partnerships will also be spotlighted at the forum.

“Angus Australia is a  major collaborator in the area of methane reduction, particularly with the work being carried out at The University of New England, so naturally we look forward to Dr Caetano’s presentation,” Sinclair Munro said.

Value of investments

“The forum will shine a spotlight on the value of potential investments in Australian Angus genetics, cutting edge research and genetic innovations,” said Scott Wright, Angus Australia and World Angus Forum chief executive.

Scott Wright

“It’s a pivotal time to bring together leaders in international agribusiness, government and cattle breeders to discuss the future particularly given the current global political environment and it’s influence on trade,” Mr Wright said.

The event will feature advancements in breeding and genomic selection, data driven marketing for livestock, and advances in methane research and trends in carbon neutral farming, all aimed at enhancing productivity and profitability. Angus cattle producers are actively using data, feed innovations and genetic selection to mitigate methane emissions and improve feed efficiency.

Key industry leaders, including top executives from Angus Beef Processors including JBS, Teys Australia, Jacks Creek, Thomas Food Industries and NH Foods, will be joined by export market leaders and technology innovators on the speakers’ stage.

The forum will also provide insights from agribusiness analysts, trade specialists and economic forecasters on the premium beef sector and global supply chain disruptions.

“With so many valuable learning and networking opportunities to be gained, this will be an event not to be missed.”
