The declining quality of the pasture and vendors choosing to wean straight into the saleyards along with preg tested empty cows lifted numbers by 2,250 head to 7,161 at Roma. Cattle were drawn from NSW, far western Qld and the local supply area. All the usual buyers attended and were active on the better quality lines with the plainer types still receiving limited competition. Yearling steers to restockers could not maintain last weeks prices and lost 5c to 20c/kg with heavy feeders the least affected.Yearling heifers followed the trend of other sale centres and lost 7c to 23c.

The presence of a new export southern buyer lifted prices on the heavy cows. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made 422c to average 385c with medium weight steers at 420c to average 370c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed made 366c to average 335c and to restockers at 364c to average 347c/kg. Yearling heifers to restockers made 300c to average 276c with yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market making 312c to average 230c/kg. Heavy yearling heifers to feed made 310c to average 269c and to restockers at 298c/kg. Grown steers to processors made 286c to average 269c with feeders paying to 334c/kg.

Grown heifers to processors made 296c to average 262c and those to feed made 318c to average 289c/kg. Heavy PTIC cows to restockers made 236c to average 225c/kg. Heavy score 2 cows made 208c to average 185c with heavy score 3 and 4 cows to processors making from 230c to 248c/kg.
