Rainfall for the week to yesterday was recorded in Tasmania, most of Victoria, southeastern South Australia, southern and northeastern New South Wales, and the Queensland north tropical coast.
The week saw a series of strong cold fronts cross southern and southeastern Australia bringing falls to southern Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, elevated parts of southern New South Wales and Tasmania. Moderate to heavy rainfall totals were recorded in western Tasmania and in Victorian Alps and southwest and southeastern South Australia.
A surface trough over southeastern Australia and an associated deep low pressure system south of Tasmania generated moderate rainfall totals mainly in southern Victoria, western Tasmania and southern New South Wales during the week.
Light rain fell in northeastern New South Wales and southeastern Queensland near the end of the week, as a surface trough developed over inland Queensland. Another cold front and deep low pressure system crossed western Tasmania and brought some moderate rainfall totals to the exposed Tasmanian west coast.
Rainfall totals over 100 mm were reported in western and northeastern Tasmania, with some areas in excess of 200 mm in the western highlands. The highest weekly rainfall total of 237 mm at Mount Read in Tasmania, although the gauge was affected by snow and the true total was probably higher.
Rainfall totals between 50 mm and 100 mm were recorded in parts of the Victorian Alps and in areas surrounding higher falls in western and in pockets of northeastern Tasmania.
Rainfall totals between 15 mm to 50 mm were recorded in a large area of Victoria away from the northern border and East Gippsland, southeastern South Australia, elevated areas of southern New South Wales, northeastern New South Wales, southeastern and the north tropical coast of Queensland, and northeastern Tasmania.
Rainfall totals over 10 mm were recorded in remaining parts of Tasmania, parts of eastern Victoria and in The Northern Territory, most of Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales, and the northern half of South Australia recorded little or no rainfall for the week.
