COLD fronts at the start and the end of the week brought rain to southern and eastern Australia, while persistent moist onshore flow resulted in heavy rainfall over central parts of the Queensland coast late in the week.

Weekly rainfall totals of around 50 to 100 mm were recorded over elevated areas in eastern Victoria, over western Tasmania and along the Cairns and Cooktown coasts of Queensland.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded over the far south of Western Australia; southern parts of South Australia; over most of Tasmania and Victoria; over inland western parts and the south-east of New South Wales; and in parts of the central coast and the inland south-west of Queensland.

Minor to moderate flooding continues along inland rivers of New South Wales, including the Darling, the Macquarie, the Murrumbidgee and the Lachlan Rivers. Minor flooding continues in Victoria, too, along rivers of the north-east as well as the Yarra and Latrobe Rivers. In Tasmania, minor flooding has redeveloped in the Macquarie River.

The highest weekly total at a Bureau gauge was 120.0 mm recorded at Tully Sugar Mill along Queensland’s Cairns Coast, which also recorded the highest daily total of 105.0 mm to 9 am on the 28th.
