Several cold fronts crossed the south-west of Western Australia, Tasmania and southern Victoria during the week bringing showers.
Easterly on-shore airflow resulted in showers for parts of the east coast.
Weekly rainfall totals greater than 15 mm were recorded in western and northern Tasmania, parts of north-eastern Victoria, south-eastern New South Wales, the Northern Tropical Coast in Queensland, and in pockets of south-eastern South Australia and north-western Victoria.
Most of western Tasmania and pockets of the Northern Tropical Coast in Queensland had weekly rainfall totals of more than 25 mm. An area in Tasmania’s north-west recorded more than 50 mm for the week.
The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) of 73.2 mm was recorded at Lake Margaret Dam, Tasmania; the highest daily rainfall total during the week of 40.0 mm was recorded at Topaz Alert, Queensland, to 9am on 26 August.
Most of Australia received little to no rain during the week.
