THE first monsoonal influence of 2025 is expected to bring significant rain to Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia – with the Bureau of Meteorology tracking three tropical lows.
According BOM’s seven-day cyclone forecast, a tropical low is expected to cross Cape York this weekend, before heading for the Gulf of Carpentaria. If the system forms BOM says it will likely head inland to Western Qld.
The other two tropical lows are expected to form off the coast of Western Australia and Qld, before heading away from the coast.
Big falls have this week hit Qld’s north coast, around Cairns, with 170-180mm near the Daintree rainforest. Those storms have stayed close to the coast and not headed inland.
BOM’s seven-day forecast is showing significant rainfall across North Qld and the gulf country, as well as the top end of the Northern Territory.
Most of the rain is expected to stay in the north.
While the direction of the tropical lows can change, along with the chance of rain, a cool change is expected to bring some relief to the 40-degree temperatures that are no doubt having a bearing on the season across most of Qld.
Rain is definitely needed in some parts, especially in the far north where a lack of monsoonal activity is creating some concern. The central-west of Qld is also looking for rain, with some big runs of cattle coming into Roma and Dalby saleyards, with the season deteriorating.
