Roma Store 21 Oct 2014: Light steers to 235c/kg

Beef Central, 22/10/2014

NLRS commentary store sale:

Yarding 6800, Change 1773

The quality of the cattle consigned was mixed and store cattle were generally in plainer condition than previous sales. A full panel of feedlot buyers were operating, while restocker buyers were more selective when purchasing light weight yearling steers. Cattle were drawn from across the usual western parts of Queensland. All categories of yearling heifers were cheaper and, despite a few higher quality score 3 cows attracting solid export processor buyer competition, most were cheaper in price than the previous store sale. Cows and calves sold to $810/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 235c and averaged 199c, down 8c, while plainer lines made to 182c and averaged 167c, up 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 228c and averaged 202c, down 10c, while those returning to the paddock hit 225c and averaged 213c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 226c and averaged 205c, down 13c/kg.
