Young cattle on sorghum stubble
MANY producers, particularly in the southern half of NSW are this year faced with salvaging frost-affected or drought-affected crops.
Options include taking them through to harvest for a reduced grain yield, turning them into hay or silage, and paddock grazing them with stock.

John Piltz
During a webinar being held next Thursday, 20 September, NSWDPI Senior Research officer John Piltz will discuss the available options open to producers, and present information around:
- support tools to help in the decision making process.
- management required to minimise to hay losses from these crops and also maximise feed quality for livestock
- how to minimise the risk of shed fires due to high crop sugar content
Mr Piltz is based at the Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute where he conducts research of relevance to southern farming systems, livestock nutrition and forage conservation.
