Qld to host inaugural Northern Beef Producer Expo on March 6

Beef Central, 21/02/2015

The inaugural Northern Beef Producer Expo will be held on March 6 at the Charters Towers Showgrounds.

The Expo is being organised by a committee of local young beef producers and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) as part of the FutureBeef program.

Organising committee member and DAF extension officer Megan Willis said the program will include several keynote speakers, practical and interactive information sessions and a trade display, all demonstrating innovation and technology within the beef industry.

“It will provide beef producers and industry stakeholders the opportunity to access all the latest beef business information and see new emerging technologies in action,” Mrs Willis said.

“There are scheduled presentations from University of New England precision agriculture expert Professor David Lamb, Qld State ANZ agribusiness manager Jeff Schrale, Australian Livestock Exporters Council CEO Alison Penfold and 2011 Nuffield Scholar ‘Beef operations from a wheelchair’ Rob Cook.

“The day is fully catered and a social BBQ dinner will close the event to provide an opportunity for all participants to continue to network with like-minded people over a steak and cold drink.”

Mrs Willis urged producers to take advantage of early bird admission by registering online at www.futurebeef.com.au before 1 March 2015.

“Online registration is $20 for general admission and $10 for student concessional card holders,” she said.

“Late registrations will be accepted after the 1 March at an increased fee of $40, either by phoning (07) 4761 5150 or purchasing tickets at the gate.”

The Northern Beef Producer Expo is an initiative of the FutureBeef program for the northern Australian beef industry. This program is a collaboration between DAF, the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries, the Western Australia Department of Agriculture and Meat and Livestock Australia.
