Senior management role changes under new business strategy for AMIC

Beef Central, 13/04/2017

THE Australian Meat Industry Council has begun a recruitment process for a new chief executive, as part of a re-configured leadership team designed to support the future direction of the industry.

The changes follow the retirement of AMIC’s veteran chief executive, Kevin Cottrill, who has been most closely engaged with the organisation’s independent retail and smallgoods industry members.

AMIC is the peak industry council that represents the interests of independent retailers, processors and smallgoods manufacturers and is the only industry association representing the post-farm-gate Australian meat industry.

In addition to the search for a new over-arching chief executive, the council is also recruiting for the newly-created role of general manager of retail and smallgoods. That role will sit beside the equivalent processing general manager’s position, filled late last year by Patrick Hutchinson.

AMIC chairman Lachie Hart said the new business strategy focused on meeting the changing needs of members through increased collaboration and communication, new and improved service delivery and a key focus on government and stakeholder engagement.

“We are committed to building an organisation for our members that is stronger than ever – one that is innovative and able to thrive in even the most challenging of circumstances,” he said.

“We recognise that the needs of our members have changed, and we need to change as well to ensure our industry is in the best possible position to succeed for future generations to come.

“As part of this, we want to ensure AMIC has a seat at the table and is well-positioned to influence and guide debate on important issues, to benefit our members and support the industry.”

Mr Hart thanked Mr Cottrill for his long and loyal service.

“Kevin has been an invaluable member of our leadership team and has made a significant contribution to the Australian meat industry,” Mr Hart said.

“We’re pleased that Kevin will continue to support our members’ interests, through his directorships of AMIST and MINTRAC, into his retirement.”

Mr Cottrill will continue in his role until the recruitment process for a new CEO is completed.
