Young heifers dominate larger AuctionsPlus offering

Beef Central, 03/06/2017

THIS week’s AuctionsPlus catalogue of 10,701 head, up 1 percent from last week, was dominated by young heifers, which made up 45pc of the offering.

New South Wales was the leading state in throughput, offering just over 5200 head. Across the commercial cattle sales there was a 68pc clearance, as the market firmed.

Landmark Broome, in Western Australia, offered three lines of Shorthorn and Red Brahman cross heifers totalling a little over 600 head on Friday.

These lots, off Mount House and Glenroy Stations in the Kimberley, saw restocker and live export bidders from three states competing on the lines, ranging from and averaging 215kg (range 138-360kg). While listed as 12-60 months of age, the mobs, drafted into reds, brindles and broken colours, were dominated by 0-2 tooth heifers. All three lots sold for $555.
