Yarding 5100 Change +530
In the wake of last Monday’s labour day public holiday, cattle numbers surged to 5,100, offering a yarding that ranged from fair to excellent, with bigger numbers of cattle well finished.
Despite the increase in numbers, not all processors were at the sale or feedlots operating, which resulted in a significant drop in prices. The market saw notable declines for both feeder steers and heifers, while cows also experienced downward price adjustments due to weak demand
Feeder steers fell by 20c, with medium weights selling between 310c and 375c/kg, while lighter weights reached a high of 370c/kg.
Feed heifers saw a price reduction of 25c in medium weights, with lighter weights decreasing by 5 cents. The majority of feed heifers sold from 255c and 336c/kg.
Trade heifers sold to fluctuating prices dipping 12c, and ranging from 280 to 344c/kg, while steers were priced between 292c and 387c/kg.
Heavy steers remained relatively stable, experiencing a modest decline of 6 cents, with prices ranging from 290 to 368c/kg. In contrast, bullocks saw a lift of 10c, trading from 312c to 388c/kg.
Cows also faced a downward trend, with prices dropping by 20 to 30c/kg. Heavy cows were priced at 284c and 310c, while leaner cows ranged from 200c to 272c/kg.
