Yarding 3800 Change -400

Cattle prices continued to soften in a smaller sized yarding of 3800 at Wagga.

Bidding from feedlots were at lower levels, however hotter weather didn’t slow restocker demand in the fair quality offering.

Export steers were very limited making it difficult to operate for some processors   Heavy steers sold from 230-268c, while bullocks sold at 232-253c/kg.

Trade heifer demand was patchy at times but prices held on well despite the mixed quality. The bulk of the medium weight trade heifers 400-500kg were unchanged making from 230-269c/kg.

The average price for trade steers strengthened slightly, with most steers suitable for the trade purchased by local feedlots. The limited number of trade steers 400-500kg made from 270-284c/kg.

The bulk of the yearling steers 400-500kg sold to feedlot orders at an average of 262c down 6c/kg.

Angus feeder type heifers were well supplied which helped push prices 2- 6c higher. Medium weight feeder heifers made from 200-269c/kg.

There was some store order competition from the north and south and restocker type steers and heifers sold very well. Steer vealers lacking finish and purchased by restockers averaged 270c/kg for 280kg the equivalent of $576 per head. Weaner steers 200-280kg sold at 210-294c/kg averaging $672

The cow market showed solid price trends for heavy cows with good support from northern processors. Heavy well finished cows were 3c cheaper making from 178-205c/kg. Leaner types slipped 10c selling at 112-194c/kg.
