Numbers dropped significantly, with producers optimistic about rain from Cyclone Alfred. Most of the usual buying group attended the sale, along with a key domestic processor returning after a lengthy absence.  Quality continues to be mostly secondary under 500kg. The market reacted across most classes due to the shortfall in supply.

Lightweight background steers surged 31c, with several feedlots pursuing a specific breed. Prices averaged $1262/head. Lightweight feeder steers 340-400kg improved 8c, fetching 314-416c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers gained 10c selling at 316-408c/kg Trade steers and heifers showed mixed trends, with the bulk making 322-354c/kg. Light weight steers back to the paddock 200-280kg sold at 360-410c lifting 22c/kg.

Heavy export cattle were in short supply, prompting buyers to step up. A key domestic processor purchased the top end of steers and bullocks, with heavy steers and bullocks selling for 314-414c/kg. Heavy cows were sold to a smaller buying group, who were not prepared to push the market. Prices were unchanged to 6c cheaper, with heavy cows selling at 280-304c/kg. Better quality leaner cows under 530kg sold for 230-255c/kg.
