Cattle numbers lifted by three percent on AuctionsPlus this week, with 13,350 head offered. However demand has continue to ease compared to previous weeks, with clearance this week sitting at 57pc.
Price movements were erratic in c/kg terms, with some young cattle categories up, while others were down. Most breeding female categories declined in c/kg value.
Again, illustrating the confusing signals provided on AuctionsPlus reports by offering price summaries in both c/kg and liveweight $/head terms, steers 200-280kg saw an average gain of $47/head, while on a c/kg basis, prices fell by 9c to average 441c/kg.
It ws the same for PTIC cows, where prices lifted $164/head, while declining 8c/kg. The only conclusions from this is that there were more heavy cows sold this week than last; there were quality differences; location differences; or there were more higher value Angus or Wagyu types that the week prior.
Victoria listed 35pc more than last week to total 1840 head and achieved a 65pc clearance. Queensland’s listings were down 26pc from the week prior, however they were still the second highest listing state at 2550 head. Queensland did the bulk of the purchasing this week, securing 31pc of the sold offering.
Listing numbers out of New South Wales remained relatively steady from the week prior, experiencing a 6pc increase in numbers with a total of 7748 head offered.
Among the young cattle offering, steers 280-330kg lifted 15c/kg this week to average 436c/kg, with an offering of 1923 head clearing 82pc.
Heavier steers 330-400 attracted 1352 head, clearing 62pc, being unchanged on last week at 408c/kg, while losing $27/head to make $1452.
Heavy feeder steers +400kg lost 21c/kg to average 377c this week, with the offering of 804 head clearing 46pc.
Steer highlights included 27 Angus heifers 13-14 months averaging 323kg from Dysart, Tasmania returning 402c/kg, going to a buyer near Launceston.
A line of 109 Angus steers 9-12 months averaging 302kg from Coonabarabran, NSW returned 480c/kg and will travel to a buyer bear Tamworth.
A line of 114 Angus steers 11-12 months averaging 372kg from Caramut, VIC returned 400c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Casterton, VIC.
Among larger lines of young cattle sold this week, 156 weaned Santa and Santa cross steers 231kg at 6-12 months from Longreach QLD made 419c/kg, while 98 Angus x Santa feeder steers 426kg at 15-22 months from Theodore central Qld made 365c/kg
Heifer prices were equally erratic. The largest category for heifers 280-330kg attracted 1484 head, clearing 67pc, with prices lifting 35c/kg to average 369c. Heavier heifers 330-400kg cleared 58pc of an offering of 1367 head, with prices back 19c/kg.
Breeding stock saw strong gains across joined cattle, with prices increasing in the PTIC Cows, PTIC Heifers as well as the station mated Heifer categories. However, non station mated cows and heifers both experienced declines.
