Roma store sale 19 May 2020: Prices firm to dearer

Watkins & Co agent Charles Gleeson with a pen of Spiven Pty Ltd heifers which sold to 389c/kg, reaching a top of $1293 to average $1012.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply including Western & North Western Queensland in a yarding where steers and heifers were present in equal numbers.

The overall quality of the yarding was good with lines of quality local young cattle well represented.

The buying panel included Southern buyers along with an increased processor presence, and all were operating to strong demand.

Prices were improved from the previous week, particularly for heifers and cows, while steers held firm or improved over most categories.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 472.2c to average 435c/kg.

A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 468.2c to average 438c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 445.2c to average 401c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 434.2c to average 380c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 450.2c to average 424c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 440.2c to average 387c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 394.2c to average 369c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 386.2c to average 356c/kg.

The best of the medium weight grown steers sold to 329.2c to average 323c/kg. Grown heifers to processors also reached a top of 329.2c to average 307c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 302.2c to average 292c/kg, while heavy weight 3 score cows made to a top of 306.2c to average 292c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 325.2c to average 325c/kg.

The limited number of cows and calves yarded reached a top of $1,640/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 472c/kg and averaged 429c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 468c/kg and averaged 415c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 446c/kg and averaged 386c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 434c/kg and averaged 360c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 387c/kg and averaging 328c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,640/unit.
