Roma store sale 7 July 2020: Quality EU steers meet strong competition

MAA Roma agent Seamus Filan with a line of Miller steers which sold to 505c/kg, reaching a top of $1,331 to average $1,111.

CATTLE were mostly drawn from the local supply area with increased numbers of EU cattle yarded.

The overall quality of the yarding varied, however quality local lines of weaners were again yarded.

A good buying panel was present but not all processors were operating.

Light weight yearling steers improved in places with quality local EU steers selling to strong competition, while medium and heavy weight feeders steers eased across the board.

Light weight heifers eased however medium weight heifers improved across most categories.

Cows generally eased with the exception of heavy weight 3 score cows that remained unchanged.

Quality local lines saw light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers reach a top of 505.2c to average 484c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers also made to 505.2c to average 456c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers reached a top of 486.2c to average 429c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers sold to 431.2c to average 402c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 470.2c to average 379c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 430.2c to average 416c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers also made to 432.2c to average 402c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 424.2c to average 388c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 396.2c to average 371c/kg. The best of the medium weight grown steers sold to 350.2c to average 343c, while the best of the grown heifers reached a top of 324.2c to average 312c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 295.2c to average 283c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 295.2c to average 283c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows were in limited numbers and reached a top of 296.2c to average 296c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 333.2c to average 320c/kg.

Cows and calf units reached a top of $1,940.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 443c/kg and averaged 398c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 431c/kg and averaged 372c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 420c/kg and averaging 361c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,940/unit.
