Roma Saleyards market report – Tuesday, 28 January

Vendors Kilterry Grazing, north Richmond offloaded a line of 202 Santa Gertrudis cross heifers of which 117 were PTIC. Of the PTIC females, a pen of 20 head sold for $1650/hd. A further 48 head returned $1540/hd. The line was consigned through TopX Roma seen here with livestock agent Cody Close.

Just shy of 8000 head of cattle were sold at Roma Saleyards as prices remained steady with a slight softening observed across categories.

The penning was once again influenced by condition and quality.

Cattle were sourced from the Maranoa and western regions, including the following areas, Hughenden, Winton, Kynuna, Cunnamulla, Barcaldine, Jericho, Richmond and Isisford.

Several consignments from New South Wales counterparts were also included in this week’s yarding with cattle sold from Condobolin, Weilmoringle and Wanaaring.

The broad mix of cattle again reinforced Roma Saleyards as the preferred marketplace with active buyer interest and bidding throughout the sale.

Heifers made up the majority of the yarding with 3,916 head sold. Steers followed closely behind at 3,704, while 1,511 cows were also offloaded.

The Smith family, Marranoonbah, Condobolin sold 112 Santa Gertrudis and Brangus steers to average 365c/kg weighing 359kg and returned $1310/hd.

A pen of their 28 Brangus steers fetched 380c/kg to weigh 339kg and returned $1289/hd.

A further two pens of their Santa Gertrudis steers sold for 366c/kg straight.

Of those two pens, 5 Santa steers sold for 366c/kg to weigh 428kg and returned $1567/hd.

The line was consigned through Elders Roma.

Further vendors Kilterry Grazing, north Richmond sold 80 Santa Gertrudis and Brahman cross steers to average 379c/kg weighing 340kg and returned $1289/hd.

Three pens of their Santa cross steers fetched 412c/kg.

A pen of their 15 Santa Gertrudis cross steers sold for 412c/kg to weigh 357kg and returned $1470/hd.

A further pen of Kilterry’s 11 Brahman cross steers sold for 326c/kg weighing in at 398kg to return $1299/hd.

The commercial producers also offloaded a line of 202 Santa Gertrudis cross heifers of which 117 were PTIC.

Of the PTIC females, a pen of 20 head sold for $1650/hd. A further 48 head returned $1540/hd.

The overall offload was part of the vendors turnoff.

Three pens fetched 338c/kg with a further four pens selling for a straight 326c/kg.

A pen of their 27 Angus cross heifers sold for 338c/kg to weigh 258kg and returned $873/hd.

A further pen of their 17 Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold for 290c/kg weighing in at 311kg to return $902/hd.

Cows in the 330-to-400-kilogram range reached 244c/kg and averaged 193c/kg.

Cows in the 400-to-500-kilogram range topped at 281c/kg, averaging 248c/kg, whereas cows in the 500-to-600-kilogram range topped at 298c/kg, averaging 267c/kg.

Cows over 600 kilograms topped at 295c/kg, averaging 285c/kg.

 

NLRS Commentary:

Roma Agents yarded 7913 head over 3000 head less than the previous sale. Cattle were drawn from a large area of QLD also NSW. All the regular processors lotfeeders and backgrounders present. A mixed quality yarding penned with the market easier for all descriptions.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg  topped 472c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg sold from 300c to 472c/kg for the better lines. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg also lost ground and sold to 440c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg making to 428c/kg which was 20/kg less than last sale. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made from 312c to 390c/kg. Yearling steers over 480kg topped 358c/kg to feed.

Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg with the majority selling from 200c to a top of 338c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg also lost ground and made to 356c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg sold from 212c to 352c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg with a small number selling from 292c to 352c/kg to feed.

Grown steers 500 to 600kg sold from 300c to 339c/kg to processors. The bullocks over 600kg topped 344c/kg also to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg with the majority selling from 220c to 242c/kg. Almost 1200 cows on offer with the 2 score cows 400 to 520kg selling from 200 to 274c/kg. The 3 score cows over 520kg topped 298c/kg. There was more store cows offered and sold from 100c to 170c/kg.

Bulls over 600kg sold from 252c to 292c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg made to 318c/kg. Bulls under 450kg topped 366c/kg.

A total of 7,913 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 472c/kg and averaged 396c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 468c/kg and averaged 362c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 440c/kg and averaged 382c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 434c/kg and averaged 376c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 390c/kg and averaged 357c/kg.

Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Bangor, Mungallala sold Brangus steers to 440c/kg, reaching a top of $1,560 to average $1,388.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 300c/kg, reaching a top $1,123 to average $933.

Rosehearty Grazing Company, Morago Station, Longreach sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 438c/kg, reaching a top of $1,565 to average $1,462.

MK Henry Co, Blue Hills, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 430c/kg, reaching a top of $1,315 to average $1,136.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $815 to average $748.

WJ & CL Glasson, Cooper Ponds, Blackall sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 426c/kg, reaching a top of $1,382 to average $1,204.

Rosehearty Grazing Co, Koonong Downs, Muckadilla sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,615 to average $1,524.  The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 350c/kg, reaching a top of $1,277 to average $1,190.

Dart Pastoral Trust, Thirlstone, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 420c/kg, reaching a top of $1,597 to average $1,285.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 348c/kg, reaching a top of $1,091 to average $964.
