Roma store sale 5 May 2020: Prices mostly up with improved quality

TopX Roma agent Sarah Packer with a pen of McAuley heifers at last week’s Roma store sale (April 28) which sold to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $945 to average $794. The steers sold to 368c/kg, reaching a top of $1,380 to average $1,203.

Yarding 5778 Change -1369

Cattle numbers fell this week, down by 1,369 head to see a total yarding of 5,778 at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area, however a good number of Northern and Western Queensland cattle were again present in a yarding dominated by steers.

Agents advise that the overall quality of the yarding was improved from recent weeks with quality local lines present.

A large panel of buyers that again included Southern buyers was present and however not all processors were operating.

Prices mostly improved from the previous week with demand strong for quality lines.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 460.2c to average 414c/kg.

A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 470.2c to average 406c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 422.2c to average 395c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 420c to average 362c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 418.2c to average 391c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 432.2c to average 359c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 392.2c to average 363c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 378.3c to average 355c/kg.

Medium weight cows sold to a top of 269.2c to average 244c, while heavy weight cows made to a top of 267.2c to average 254c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 305.2c to average 300c/kg.

The smaller yarding of cows and calves reached to top of $1,750/unit.

A total of 5,778 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 470c/kg and averaged 382c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 440c/kg and averaged 398c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 422c/kg and averaged 383c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 420c/kg and averaged 360c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 398c/kg and averaging 321c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,750/unit.

Allen Family Inv, Hutton View, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 460c/kg, reaching a top of $916 to average $861.

Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 451c/kg, reaching a top of $1,316 to average $1,197. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 416c/kg, reaching a top of $1,143 to average $994.

JF & BP Russell, Willara, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 436c/kg, reaching a top of $1,381 to average $1,258. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 386c/kg, reaching a top of $1,203 to average $1,106.

Golden Pastoral Holdings, Nullin, Dulacca sold Charolais cross steers to 422c/kg, reaching a top of $1,217 to average $1,200.
