Roma store sale 14 Sep 2021: Western Qld cattle boost yarding

The overall quality of the yarding was mixed and included numbers from Western and North-West Queensland.

A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors.

Steers yarded included oats finished heavy weights through to store condition steers with quality lines selling to strong competition.

Heifers included numbers drawn from North and Western Queensland with a large run of PTIC heifers yarded.

Oats finished cows were also yarded in good numbers.

Competition remained strong for quality cattle with steers and cows mostly improving, while heifers eased in places.

Light weight steers eased by 19c to 78c, while medium weight steers improved by 12c to 63c/kg.

Light weight heifers under 280 kg to restockers improved by 19c/kg. Medium weight heifers to restockers eased by 24c/kg. Medium weight heifers under 400kg to feed improved by 41c/kg.

Heavy weight prime cows were yarded in increased numbers and improved by 2c to 3c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a top of 672.2c to average 580c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers were the largest sample of steers for the day, and made to 698.2c to average 619c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 634.2c to average 604c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 560.2c to average 527c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 502.2c to average 462c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 648.2c to average 544c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 664.2c to average 543c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 556.2c to average 469c, while yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 543.2c to average 519c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 466.2c to average 460c/kg.

The best of the grown steers made to 412.2c to average 392c/kg. The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 405.2c to average 384c/kg.

A large consignment of PTIC grown heifers was again present, selling at open auction with the best of the red tags reaching $2200/head. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 368.2c to average 361c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 385.2c to average 377c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 386.2c to average 364c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2020/unit.
