Roma store sale 6 Nov 2018: Light Blackall heifers to 330c/kg

Nat Currie, Elders Blackall with the Enniskillen Pastoral Co Santa heifers. The heifers sold to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $513 to average $443.

Cattle were drawn predominantly from Western Queensland with a large run from Alice Springs.

A good panel of buyers was present and operating. Once again, the yarding was dominated by young cattle of mixed quality, and demand for better lines of cattle remained strong.

The yarding experienced quality related price changes across all categories.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers increased by 11c to 29c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to background or feed sold 5c dearer, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed increased by 4c to 7c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers increased by 12c to 27c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows increased 3c to 13c, however 3 score medium weight cows eased 10c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to 332.2 to average 322c/kg. A large sample of yearling steers to restockers in the 200-280kg weight category sold to 328.2c to average 319c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed sold to 316.2c to average 311c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 314.2c to average 311c/kg.

A large sample of yearling heifers to restockers in the 200-280kg weight category sold to 304.2c to average 289c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 308.2c to average 294c/kg. Grown Steers and heifers were present in small numbers. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 234.2c to average 216c/kg, while the medium weight 3 score cows made to 255c to average 243c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 260.2c to average 251c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 314c/kg and averaged 267c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 335c/kg and averaged 285c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 335c/kg and averaged 294c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 318c/kg and averaged 298c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 314c/kg and averaging 286c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,240/unit.

Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 302c/kg, averaging 261c/kg.
Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 304c/kg, averaging 263c/kg.
The Enniskillen Past Co, Boongoondoo, Jericho sold Santa heifers to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $513 to average $443.
Usher Past Co, Norwood, Wandoan sold Angus cross heifers to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $801 to average $691.
TJ & JA Sorensen, Westerdale, Roma sold Charolais heifers to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $724 to average $724.
Burunga P/L, Burunga, Wandoan sold Santa cross heifers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $754 to average $641.
Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 250c/kg and averaged 187c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 251c/kg and averaged 212c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 251c/kg, averaging 237c/kg.
