Roma sale 13 Sep 2022: Competition remains firm

Numbers rose to 2,211 at the Roma Store Sale despite last week’s widespread rainfall. The mixed quality yarding was drawn from a wide supply area and steers again accounted for two thirds of the yarding. A good buying panel was present and operating. Competition remained firm with buyers competing strongly on frame over condition for steers, with price fluctuations reflective of quality variations.

Steers varied with light weight steers down by 1c to 61c/kg. However medium weight steers under 330kg to restockers rose by 53c, while heavy weight feeders improved by 26c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg to restockers improved by 58c, medium weight heifers under 400kg to feed rose by 13c, while heavy weight heifers to feed improved by 11ckg. Increased competition saw medium weight prime cows up by 10c and heavy weight prime cows up by 6c/kg.

Light weight steers under 200kg made to 700.2c to average 625c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers to 724.2c to average 678c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed reached 710.2c to average 629c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 602.2c to average 518c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 484.2c to average 472c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 380c to average 380c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 610.2c to average 563c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 596.2c to average 548c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 462.2c to average 449c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 510.2c to average 475c/kg.

The largest sample of grown steers made to 450.2c to average 435c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 408.2c to average 408c/kg. Medium weight prime cows made to 390.2c to average 378 c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows made to 396.2c to average 384c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 403.2c to average 376c/kg. The very limited numbers of cows and calves sold to $2,050/unit.

Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 710c/kg and averaged 600c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 602c/kg and averaged 512c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 484c/kg and averaging 468c/kg.

OL & CM Jones, The Grove Station, Winton sold Braford cross steers to 690c/kg reaching a top of $2,520 to average $1,939.

BRF Southern, Glenmuir, St George sold Brahman cross steers to 688c/kg reaching a top of $2,124 to average $2,012.

Boyd KJ & SL, Blair Gowrie, Injune sold Charbray cross steers to 670c/kg reaching a top of $1,908 to average $1,831.

J Jackson & K Anderson sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 660c/kg reaching a top of $1,993 to average $1,867.

H Sommerfield & Son, Canegrass, Charleville sold Droughtmaster steers to 546c/kg reaching a top of $1,939 to average $1,857.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 380c/kg and averaged 380c/kg, while heifers in the 200- 280kg range topped at 610c/kg and averaged 522c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 596c/kg, averaging 468c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 462c/kg, averaging 437c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 510c/kg, averaging 462c/kg.

THE Goodman, Dargal Downs, Roma sold Angus heifers to 596c/kg reaching a top of $1,754 to average $1,754.

DI & EM Jones, The Grove Station, Winton sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 568c/kg reaching a top of $1,411 to average $1,317.

Campmac Pty Ltd, Saramac Downs, Pickanjinnie sold Angus cross heifers to 560c/kg reaching a top of $1,519 to average $1,519.

Earle Graze Pty Ltd sold Angus cross heifers to 510c/kg reaching a top of $2,128 to average $1,749. The Angus cross cows sold to 396c/kg reaching a top of $2,660 to average $2,338.

DW & SG Rowbotham, White Park, Roma sold Angus cross heifers sold to 413c/kg reaching a top of $2,470 to average $2,470. The Santa Gertrudis cross cows to 390c/kg reaching a top of $2,477 to average $2,477.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 386c/kg and averaged 303c/kg. Cows in the 400- 500kg range topped at 408c/kg, averaging 357c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 386c/kg, averaging 370c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 396c/kg, averaging 391c/kg.

Tullamore Park Pastoral, Canberra, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cows to 408c/kg reaching a top of $2,399 to average $2,057.

The Santa Gertrudis bulls sold to 403c/kg reaching a top of $4,112 to average $4,112.
