Roma sale 21 Feb 2023: Young cattle prices stabilise

Most were drawn from the usual supply areas plus 440 head from New South Wales.

A large panel of buyers was present and operating.

Despite large numbers for the last two weeks prices tended to stabilise and improve slightly for most classes of young cattle pushed on by some additional support from Western restockers.

Export lines of heavy grown steers bullocks and cows lost 5c to 8c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 200kg made to 632c to average 599c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg returning to the paddock made to 600c with a good sample averaging 512c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg made to 528c to average 474c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to 480c with a large number at 424c the feeder lines made to 428c to average 408c/kg. A large number of heavy weight yearling steers to feed lacked the quality of the previous week and averaged 360c made to an isolated 422/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 424c to average 370c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed made to 405c and averaged from 357c to 376ckg. Heavy weight heifers PTIC sold to restockers at 393c/kg Heavy grown steers and bullocks made to a top of 350c with most from 334c to 335kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 285c and the best of the cows made 295c to average 293c/kg.

Cows and calves sold open auction made to $2,575/unit.

A total of 6,014 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 632c/kg and averaged 625c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 600c/kg and averaged 506c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 528c/kg and averaged 453c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 488c/kg and averaged 410c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 426c/kg and averaging 362c/kg.

Twatty Pastoral Co, Como, Quilpie sold Charbray cross steers to 632c/kg, reaching a top of $1,692 to average $1,394.

Boyd KJ & SL, Blair-Gowrie, Injune sold Charbray cross steers to 504c/kg reaching a top of $1,498 to average $1,414.

S J Packer, Hartwood, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 492c/kg, reaching a top of $1,462 to average $1,462. The Santa Gertrudis cross cows sold to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,919 to average $1,563.

Scott Ridley, Talegar, Coonamble sold Brangus steers to 492c/kg, reaching a top of $1,424 to average $1,318. The Brangus heifers sold to 344, reaching a top of $1,187 to average $1,020

Matthew’s Farm Investment, Noella Station, Charleville sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 488c/kg, reaching a top of $1,736 to average $1,558.

M.T & T.L Partington, Gundale, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 462c/kg, reaching a top of $1,555 to average $1,444.

Bass Cattle Co., Muldoon, Mungallala sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 448c/kg, reaching a top of $1,523 to average $1,422. The Santa Gertrudis cross cows sold to 295c/kg, reaching a top of $2,016 to average $1,580.

Wilson, Kaywarra, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 424c/kg, reaching a top of $1,735 to average $1,539. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 386c/kg, reaching a top of $1,452 to average $1,365.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 424c/kg and averaged 387c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 424c/kg and averaged 345c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 392c/kg, averaging 342c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 405c/kg, averaging 358c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 354c/kg, averaging 324c/kg.
