Roma store sale 19 Feb 2019: Young cattle numbers increase

Watkins and Co team Charles Gleeson, Brad Neven and Ian Bassett selling a pen of Charolais heifers at Tuesday’s Store Sale. The Charolais heifers sold to 234c/kg, reaching a top of $775 to average $728.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and a good panel of buyers was present with all operating.

The yarding was dominated by young cattle and the quality of all categories of cattle varied.

Prices decreased sharply for yearling steers and heifers, however demand remained firm for quality lines.

Cows also saw price fluctuations but they were less severe.

Light weight steers under 280kg to restockers eased by 40c to 59c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers weighing 280-330kg to feed declined 29c, while the medium weight yearling steers weighing 330-400kg to feed decreased by 17c/kg. Heavy weight steers to feed sold 7c/kg cheaper.

Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers eased 15c to 24c/kg. Yearling heifers weighing 280-330kg to restockers, decreasing 19c, however the yearling heifers weighing 330-400kg to restockers increased 3c/kg.

There were limited grown steers and heifers yarded.

Medium weight 2 score cows eased 6c to 9c, while medium weight 3 score cows sold 18c/kg dearer. Heavy weight 3 score cows increased 22c/kg.

Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to a top of 286.2c to average 256c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling steers weighing 280-330kg to feed made to 278.2c to average 262c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers weighing 330-400kg to feed made to 284.2c to average 263c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 274.2c to average 268c/kg.

Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 236.2c to average 207c/kg. Yearling heifers weighing 280-330kg made to 234.2c to average 213c/kg. Medium weight heifers weighing 330-400 kg made to 240c to average 224c/kg. Heavy weight grown heifers sold to a top of 245.2c to average 241c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows sold to a top of 180c to average 158c, while the medium weight 3 score cows made to 221.2c to average 205c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 228.2c to average 216c/kg. Medium weight bulls sold to a top of 275.2c to average 266c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 274c/kg and averaged 246c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 286c/kg and averaged 237c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 278c/kg and averaged 244c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 284c/kg and averaged 257c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 279c/kg and averaging 261c/kg. Cows and calves hit $750/unit.

DT & KA York Family Trust, Wattle Park, Wallumbilla sold Simbrah cross steers to 279c/kg, reaching a top of $1,433 to average $1,353.

Roslin Grazing Co, Roslin, Mungallala sold Charbray cross steers to 278c/kg, reaching a top of $1,549 to average $1,404.

R & L Mohr, Erindale, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 278c/kg, reaching a top of $888 to average $869.

Torres Park Grazing, Cherry Hills, Injune sold Santa steers to 277c/kg, reaching a top of $1,245 to average $973. The Santa heifers sold to 245c/kg, reaching a top of $1,259 to average $847.

LJ & SG Hanna, Terrarara, Mitchell sold Santa steers to 276c/kg, reaching a top of $892 to average $848. The Santa heifers sold to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $696 to average $634.

LRC Grazing, Abbington, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 275c/kg, reaching a top of $1,197 to average $1,114.

KE & DE Donner, Boxvale, Taroom sold Santa cross steers to 274c/kg, reaching a top of $1,188 to average $1,112.

TW & AJ Bowen, Wylpena, Mitchell sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 274c/kg, reaching a top of $1,184 to average $1,058.

Ian Brumpton Holdings Pty Ltd, Oaklands, Roma sold Angus steers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $570 to average $542. The Angus heifers sold to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $466 to average $438.

MG & LJ Huntly, Kilburnie, Muckadilla sold Charolais steers to 268c/kg, reaching a top of $925 to average $925. The Charolais heifers sold to 234c/kg, reaching a top of $775 to average $728.

Layershire Pty Ltd, Koorandai, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 256c/kg, reaching a top of $563 to average $470. The Angus cross heifers sold to 208c/kg, reaching a top of $521 to average $396.

Dakota Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Hiddenvale, Roma sold Brahman steers to 253c/kg, reaching a top of $1,534 to average $1,367.

M Foster, Nunya, Wallumbilla sold Santa steers to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $537 to average $433.

Clark Livestock, Rockdell, Lyndhurst sold Angus cross steers to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $671 to average $614.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 234c/kg and averaged 192c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 236c/kg and averaged 196c/kg. Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 240c/kg, averaging 211c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 243c/kg, averaging 207c/kg.

Roma State College, Research Station, Roma sold Angus cross heifers to 220c/kg, reaching a top of $657 to average $657.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 207c/kg and averaged 130c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 221c/kg and averaged 168c/kg.

Cows over 500kg topped at 228c/kg, averaging 208c/kg

    Very much vaue your reports and insights, but the format now for printing is somewhat unfriendly using just one side of the page and being totally unworkable with regard to saving paper.
