Roma sale 19 Sep 2023: Secondary lines lose ground

Cattle were drawn from the Warrego and NSW and the local supply area.

All processors and backgrounders and feedlotters were in attendance and operating with buyers showing preference for quality lines.

However once again secondary classes could not maintain the levels of the previous sale.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg returning to the paddock made to 290c to average 279ckg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg averaged 278c made to 316c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg returning to the paddock topped 290c to average 265c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg to feed averaged 272c and made to 284c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg to feed topped at 283c to average 273c/kg

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 264c and averaged 194c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg made from 130c to 200c to average 167c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg topped at 204c and averaged 165c/kg. Grown steers to processors 500 to 600kg made to 240c to average 238c/kg. A small number of bullocks averaged 229c topping at 230c/kg.

A large yarding of store cows sold from 50c to 130c/kg.

Heavy 3 score cows to processors made to 191c/kg to average 180c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to 234c/kg.

Roma store press report

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 248c/kg and averaged 208c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 316c/kg and averaged 274c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 257c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 280c/kg and averaged 260c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 284c/kg and averaged 274c/kg.

Andromeda Cattle Co., Eddington, Mungallala sold Charolais cross steers to 316c/kg, reaching a top of $806 to average $695.

John Sylvester, Frogmore, Surat, sold Angus steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $873 to average $757. The Angus heifers sold to 198c/kg, reaching a top of $550 to average $461.

R.C. & S.J Watson, Wallam, Mitchell sold Angus cross steers to 288c/kg, reaching a top of $988 to average $605.

A.R. Roberts, Tantatton, Wallumbilla sold Blonde D’Aquitaine cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $1,516 to average $1,447.

R.H & R.J West, Silvery Valley, Wallumbilla sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $1,396 to average $1,295.

E.L & D.K Connolly, Tetalga, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 283c/kg, reaching a top of $1,320 to average $1,199.

Sutton Beef, Bundabar, Glenmorgan sold Angus cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,143 to average $1,087.

A.W & G.W.W Littleton, Gabel Park, Jackson sold Angus cross steers to 276c/kg, reaching a top of $718 to average $718.

John York, Taunton, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 275c/kg, reaching a top of $1,365 to average $1,148.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 192c/kg and averaged 161c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 200c/kg and averaged 162c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 204c/kg, averaging 169c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 218c/kg, averaging 182c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 226c/kg, averaging 201c/kg.

FJ Ahern, Murweh Station, Charleville sold Euro cross heifers to 226c/kg, reaching a top of $998 to average $921.

Sally Lee, Nangarie, Roma sold Angus heifers to 208c/kg, reaching a top of $749 to average $749.

Bendemere Pastoral Co, Bendemere, Yuleba sold Angus cross heifers to 200c/kg, reaching a top of $812 to average $812.

Hanson Past Co, Coorumbene, Taroon sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 192c/kg, reaching a top of $398 to average $382.

G.T & G.E. Burey, Springhill, Amby sold Brangus cross heifers to 190c/kg, reaching a top of $546 to average $493.

TS & LF White, Daisy Hills, Euthulla sold Angus heifers to 186c/kg, reaching a top of $660 to average $536.

G.S. & C.J. White, Marionvale, Surat sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 180c/kg, reaching a top of $499 to average $481.
