Roma sale 26 Oct 2021: Light weight steers break $8kg mark

Steers accounted for half of the yarding, and cattle were mostly drawn from the usual supply area, with some numbers from Western and North-Western Queensland.

The overall quality of the yarding was mixed but included several runs of quality single vendor lines. A larger buying panel was operating, comprised of all regular processors with an increased Southern restocker presence and solid feedlot activity.

n, with a new top price record for steers at Roma set after light weight steers broke the $8kg mark.

Light weight steers to restockers improved by 6c to 26c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved by 31c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg improved by 48c to 54c, while medium weight heifers to feed improved by 76c to 78c/kg. Heavy weight prime cows remained unchanged in price.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to a record breaking top for Roma of 810.2c to average 717c/kg.

Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 794.2c to average 664c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 688.2c to average 579c/kg.

Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to a top of 616.2c to average 579c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 548.2c to average 516c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 752.2c to average 576c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 720.2c to average 629c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed sold to 622.2c to average 586c/kg. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 600.2c to average 565c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers sold to 499.2c to average 499c/kg.

The best of the grown steers made to 482.2c to average 482c/kg.

The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 415.2c to average 406c/kg.

PTIC red tag cows sold at open auction to a top of $2280/head. Medium weight store cows to restockers included a large line of quality angus cows and sold to a top of 442.2c to average 419c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 388.2c to average 377c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 403.2c to average 396/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached a top of 385.2c to average 364c/kg.

Cows and calves made to a top of $2780/unit.

A total of 6,096 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday. Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 810c/kg and averaged 686c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 794c/kg and averaged 643c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 688c/kg and averaged 575c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 628c/kg and averaged 533c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 548c/kg and averaging 477c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,780/unit.
