Roma store sale 13 May 2020: Prices lift across most categories

Yarding 5324 Change -454

Cattle numbers fell this week, down by 545 head to see a total yarding of 5,324 at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area with a good number from Western Queensland, in a yarding dominated by steers.

Agents advise that the overall quality of the yarding was good with an increase in younger cattle.

Southern buyers were again included in the large buying panel that was present and operating.

Prices mostly improved across the categories, with heifers and cows both selling to strong demand.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 458.2c to average 442c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 452.2c to average 410c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 438.2c to average 392c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 426.2c to average 367c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 424.2c to average 409c/kg. A good sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 408.2c to average 374c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 384.2c to average 357c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 374.2c to average 339c/kg.

Medium weight cows sold to a top of 296.2c to average 265c/kg, while heavy weight cows made to a top of 293.2c to average 270c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 325.2c to average 294c/kg.

The small number of cows and calves on offer reached a top of $2060/unit.

A total of 5,324 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 458c/kg and averaged 420c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 452c/kg and averaged 402c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 438c/kg and averaged 377c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 402c/kg and averaged 356c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 384c/kg and averaging 351c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,060/unit.

AJ Lister, Grafton Lea, Orallo sold Angus cross steers to 452c/kg, reaching a top of $1,159 to average $1,059.

JH & DR Walker, Thorpedale, Jackson sold Speckled park steers to 450c/kg, reaching a top of $958 to average $921. The Speckled park heifers sold to 426c/kg, reaching a top of $826 to average $792.

TR & KI Burns Family Trust, Colgoon, Roma sold Santa cross steers to 448c/kg, reaching a top of $1,145 to average $1,027. The Santa cross heifers sold to 400c/kg, reaching a top of $1,028 to average $905.

Bryant Family Grazing, Bundalloch, Bollon sold Angus cross steers to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,235 to average $1,018.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 264c/kg and averaged 220c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 254c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 296c/kg, averaging 267c/kg.

J Conroy, Delacourt, Julia Creek sold Droughtmaster cows to 293c/kg, reaching a top of $1,724 to average $1,452.

Bylot Plains Partnership, Yartoo, Bollon sold Santa cross cows to 285c/kg, reaching a top of $1,720 to average $1,469.

Lumeah Grazing, Lumeah, Blackall sold Santa cross cows to 279c/kg, reaching a top of $1,669 to average $1,402.
