Roma store sale 17 Aug 2021: Firm market for 6756 cattle

Almost a third of the yarding was drawn from North West Queensland, with the remainder drawn from the usual supply area.

The overall quality was again mixed with heavy steers present in good numbers and steers and heifers were yarded in similar numbers. A large buying panel was again present and operating, including all regular processors.

Prices remained firm with positive trends in places and price fluctuations mostly reflective of quality variations.

Light weight steers to restockers improved by 11c to 32c, however medium weight steers to feed fell by 11c to 22c/kg. Light weight heifers under 280kg to restocker fell by 19c, while medium weight heifers to feed improved by 8c to 32c/kg.

Restocker activity fell for cows, however processor demand was strong with improvements of 3c to 6c/kg for the good number of heavy weight cows yarded.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg remain in limited supply and sold to a top of 658.2c to average 644c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 664.2c to average 614c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 614.2c to average 576c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg to restockers made to a top of 582.2c to average 555c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 540.2c to average 483c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 636.2c to average 539c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 636.2c to average 532c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 560.2c to average 540c/kg. While yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 540.2c to average 524c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 480.2c to average 439c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight grown steers to made to 405.2c to average 386c/kg. The best of the grown heifers sold to a top of 394.2c to average 376c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows reached a top of 339.2c to average 331c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score prime cows made to a top of 363.2c to average 350c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls reached a top of 360.2c to average 359c/kg. C

ows and calves were yarded in larger numbers and reached a top of $2500/unit.
