NLRS Roma market sale commentary

Yarding 3232 Change -1946

Yardings fell 40% and the quality of store cattle penned also declined. A good panel of restocker buyers were present, but were operating more selectively.

Prices dropped 11c to 13c/kg for feeder weight store cattle with several feedlot buyers not at the sale. Less feedlot buyer competition for light weight yearling heifers meant restocker buyers were able to purchase heifers at 12c/kg cheaper on average. Cows were firm in price to 5c/kg cheaper to processor buyers. Steer calves sold to 412c and averaged 380c, down 5c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to 356c and averaged between 331c and 340c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 310c and averaged 302c, while those returning to the paddock hit 330c and averaged 317c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 296c and averaged 293c, down 13c/kg.
