Yarding 4362 Change -378
The supply of stock experienced a small reduction and overall quality was fair to good, however the large runs of well-bred light weight young cattle at the previous week’s sale were absent.
A large panel of restockers, feeder operators and export processors were in attendance and all were operating.
Light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to a strong demand for the quality pens. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a dearer trend to improve by 7c to 10c/kg. Despite a 24pc increase in the number of cows penned buyers absorbed the larger numbers and lifted average prices by 1c to 9c/kg.
A good range of light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 404c and made to 420.2c/kg. A more robust penning of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 371c and made to 392.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 351c and made to 358.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers experienced only quality related price changes with most in the high 340c range with sales to 368.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 5c better, to average 334c and made to 352.2c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 308c and made to 314.2c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows sold to restockers averaging 240c/kg. A total of 4362 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.
Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 418c/kg and averaged 395c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 420c/kg and averaged 387c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 416c/kg and averaged 384c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 396c/kg and averaged 357c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 360c/kg and averaging 329c/kg.
