Roma Store 30 Sep 2014: Large western consignments boost numbers

Beef Central, 01/10/2014

Yarding 7600, Change 3800

The supply of stock doubled on the previous week, and the large consignments from the far western districts were dominated by cows.

Buyer attendance was good, with a fair representation of restockers along with the usual panel of feeder operators and
export processors.

The larger numbers allowed average prices to ease slightly for lightweight yearling steers returning to the
paddock.

However, feeder operators were able to absorb the increased numbers of medium and heavy weight yearling steers
and maintain the recent improved prices.

Lightweight yearling heifers tended to struggle, while medium weights to feed experienced strong demand. The very large line-up of cows generally received strong support from processors; however, the sheer weight of numbers resulted in some small price adjustments in places.

A large number of lightweight yearling steers returned to the paddock at 201c, with sales to 215c/kg.

Medium weights to feed mostly sold around 206c, with sales to 219c/kg. Heavy weights averaged 202c and also made to 219c, with the better condition classes averaging 214c and a few to slaughter also making around 214c/kg. A large number of lightweight yearling heifers to feed, slaughter and restockers averaged in the high 170c range, while D muscle lines sold around 150c/kg. Medium weight C2 lines to feed averaged 178c and the better condition classes averaged 188c, selling to 203c/kg.

A handful of heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged 207c and made to 209c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows were well
supplied and most sold around 148c and the 3 scores averaged 166c/kg. Good heavy cows averaged 181c/kg.
