Yarding 6423 Change -840

Yarding numbers declined 10% with a slight improvement in the quality of store cattle penned. The yarding mostly contained very light weight steers and heifers, plus consignments of heavy weight yearling steers suitable for feedlot buyers. New South Wales restocker buyers were very active in the market and pushed light weight yearling steers prices up 16c/kg. Light and medium weight yearling heifer prices improved with solid demand from supermarket feedlot buyers, restockers, and southern processors.

Light weight yearling steers made to 318c and averaged between 277c and 292c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed hit 305c and averaged 289c, while those to restocker buyers made to 290c and averaged 271c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 302c and averaged 276c, up 11c, while those going to oats crops sold to 292c and averaged 287c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers sold to 256c and averaged between 235c and 251c/kg. Those returning to the paddock hit 280c and averaged 246c, up 3c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 286c and averaged 222c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 264c and averaged 231c/kg.

A few grown steers to feed reached 270c and averaged 253c, up 26c/kg. Good heavy weight 4 score cows reached 226c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $940/unit.

Roma steers hit 318c/kg

Cumberland Cattle Co, Verastan, Muttaburra, sold Santa steers to 318c/kg for 219kg to return $695/head and Santa steers to 316c/kg for 258kg to make $815/head. Ray White Rural sold the cattle at Tuesday’s Roma Store Sale.

A total of 6423 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 318c/kg and averaged 296c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 316c/kg and averaged 284c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 305c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 305c/kg and averaged 283c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 303c/kg and averaging 279c/kg.

Cumberland Cattle Co, Verastan, Muttaburra, sold Santa steers to 318c/kg for 218kg to return $695/head.

Melinda Downs, Cloncurry, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 315c for 191kg to return $604.

C Hermann, Vindex Station, Winton, sold Angus-cross steers to 312c for 154kg to return $480.

E & C Rolfe, Nindinna, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 305c for 360kg to return $1098. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 286c for 358kg to return $1024.

Shirley Houston, Erindale, Wallumbilla, sold Angus steers to 298c for 436kg to return $1302.

Yackatoon Grazing Co, La Grantha, Wandoan, sold Droughtmaster steers to 298c for 379kg to return $1130.

Mayne Pastoral Co, Coolamon, Dulacca, sold Charolais-cross steers to 298c for 312kg to return $931.

Formosa Farming Co, Formosa Downs, Surat, sold Limousin-cross steers to 296c for 413kg to return $1224. The Limousin-cross heifers sold to 255c for 418kg to return $1067.

G & L Smith, Iona, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross steers to 294c for 451kg to return $1326.

B & M Scott, Juno Downs, Jundah, sold Santa-cross steers to 294c for 345kg to return $1016.

Scott Elloitt, Mt Rourke, Winton, sold Droughtmaster steers to 279c for 410kg to return $1145.

B Weir & A Black, Emu Park, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 262c for 380kg to return $996.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 286c/kg and averaged 243c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 279c/kg and averaged 228c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 270c/kg and averaged 231c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 280c/kg and averaged 245c/kg.

Bass Cattle Co, Muldoon, Mungallala, sold Santa heifers to 279c for 396kg to return $1106.

W & M Jones, Norolle Downs, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 272c for 378kg to return $1029.

Cows over 500kg sold to 226c/kg and averaged 205c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 225c/kg and averaged 188c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 194c/kg and averaged 170c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $940/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 260c/kg and average 212c/kg.
