Numbers declined slightly and the yarding contained a large number of calves weaned directly off cows. Many appeared to be drought influenced sales of light weight, young weaners to save cows for winter.

Good, light yearling steers continued to sell well with good restocker demand, while extra feedlot buyers were operating on cattle suitable for the supermarket trade. Good numbers of local cattle were penned with mixed quality of western cattle also yarded. Light weight yearling heifers improved in price with solid demand from restocker, feedlot, and southern processor buyers. Cows and calves sold to $595/unit.

Good quality calves reached 196c and averaged 186c, down 3c, while plainer lines averaged 138c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock hit 202c and averaged 184c, while a quality line of light weight steers purchased by a domestic feedlot buyer for up to 208c and averaged 200c/kg. The D muscled sorts averaged 155c, down 5c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed and restockers topped at 205c and averaged between 186c and 188c, while plainer consignments sold between 152c and 165c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed and crop hit 190c and averaged between 183c and 188c, while plainer sorts averaged 154c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot for backgrounding sold to 154c and averaged 142c, up 1c, while those to southern processors reached 155c and averaged 141c, up 9c/kg.

Those returning to the paddock earned to 150c and averaged 139c, up 4c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 152c and averaged 137c, down 8c, and those to restockers hit 156c and averaged 150c/kg for better quality sorts. A few heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 144c/kg.

Grown steers mostly sold to 149c and 173c/kg. Light and medium weight 2 score cows sold to 92c and averaged between 67c and averaged 83c, up 1c/kg. A couple of medium weight 4 score cows sold to 138c/kg.

A total of 5386 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 196c/kg and averaged 164c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 208c/kg and averaged 165c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 208c/kg and averaged 175c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 202c/kg and averaged 164c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 190c/kg and averaging 171c/kg.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune, sold Charolais steers to 206c/kg for 346kg to return $713/head. The Charolais-cross heifers to 154c for 315kg to return $486.

D & M Rayner, Moraby, Condamine, sold Charolais steers to 205c for 321kg to return $660. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 144c for 307kg to return $443.

E & C Rolfe, Marie Downs, Roma, sold Charolais steers to 202c for 366kg to return $741. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 156c for 387kg to return $604.

J & Y Freeman, Emohruo, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 202c for 350kg to return $707.

V & G Packer, Kurrajong, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 198c for 298kg to return $592.

Stinson Pastoral Co, Hillyview, Amby, sold Charolais-cross steers to 190c for 233kg to return $444.

The Hay family, Moonya, Wandoan, sold Braford-cross steers to 189c for 347kg to return $656.

C & E Counsell, South Delta Station, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 185c for 207kg to return $384. The Santa heifers sold to 136c for 216kg to return $294.

NW Mansfield, Saltcote, Mitchell, sold Santa steers to 182c for 404kg to return $736.

Woonoona Pastoral Co, Woonoona, Roma, sold Angus steers to 176c for 231kg to return $408.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 156c/kg and averaged 135c/kg.Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 155c/kg and averaged 138c/kg.Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 150c/kg and averaged 131c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 150c/kg and averaged 126c/kg.

M Johnston & L Briggs, Kerrielaw Taroom, sold Charbray heifers to 150c for 281kg to return $423.

Waroona Pastoral Co, Rockybank, Mitchell, sold PTIC Blue tag Angus-cross heifers to 147c for 340kg to return $501.

T & R Wichlacz, Woodbine, Muckadilla, sold Santa heifers to 138c for 296kg to return $409.

Cows over 500kg sold to 131c/kg and averaged 120c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 138c/kg and averaged 109c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 116c/kg and averaged 92c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $595/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 146c/kg and average 105c/kg.
