Yarding 10,200 Change 5874

The annual big run of vendor bred weaners lifted total supply to 10,200 head at the Roma store sale.

A much larger number of buyers were in attendance and provided stronger competition as the last of the big vendor bred lines draws to a close. Overall quality was generally good and included in the line-up was some consignments of very well bred lines. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock struggle to maintain recent price levels and the light weight heifer portion also returning to the paddock sold to a cheaper market. However feeder classes of yearling steers lifted in price by 7c to 20c/kg and considerably more in places and the heifer portion followed a similar trend. A large selection of cows lifted in price by 10c and over 20c/kg in places.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 309.2c, a fair sample around 293c and heifer calves made to 254.2c with most at 234c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 280c with a few to 309.2c/kg. Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range made to 326.2c with a large sample averaging 294c/kg. The largest numbers of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 287c while a fair selection of very well-bred lines made to 342.2c to average 338c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to 300.2c with a large number averaging 288c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock or background averaged 237c and made to 260c/kg. A consignment of well-bred lines went on to be future breeders at an average of 377c with sales to 390.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 256c and some better condition lines made to 282c to average 274c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 280.2c to average 264c/kg. Light weight plain condition cows returned to the paddock at an average of 154c with sales to 169.2c with some better medium weights reaching 210c to average 203c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to processors averaged 175c and made to 184.2c/kg. The best of the medium weights averaged 221c and made to 227.2c/kg.
