Yarding 10,400 Change 200

Cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state including far western districts.

Buyer attendance was good and most were operating.

The overall quality of the young light weight cattle was not up to the standard of the previous sale and this was reflected in average prices.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 7c/kg less. However medium weights to feed experienced very little change in price and the heavy weights averaged 4c/kg better. Light weight yearling heifers followed the trend of most other centres and averaged 14c/kg cheaper. Nevertheless the medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed improved in price.

Cows to export slaughter lifted in price by 11c to 17c/kg compared to last Tuesday’s sale.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to the occasional 310c with most around 278c and heifer calves averaging 199c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 274c, with some to 291.2c and lesser quality lines to 245c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 303.2c with a large sample averaging 285c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed averaged 292c and made to 300c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the 220c range with sales to 250.2c and poor quality lines made 202c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 263c and made to 278.2c/kg. A few heavy weights to feed averaged 250c and some to the trade made to 252.2c/kg.
