NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 8119 Change -3681

Yarding numbers returned to normal after the previously large store sale. The penning of cattle contained extensive numbers of western, drought affected sorts. Prices reflected the decreased quality on offer, but solid Queensland and southern restocker buyer demand maintained a fairly bullish market.

The short supply of suitable heavy feeder steers boosted prices by 7c to 12c/kg on average. Light weight yearling steers sold to 334c and averaged between 287c and 304c, while plainer sorts sold to 248c and averaged between 205c and 217c/kg. Calves made to 304c and averaged between 254c and 300c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 292c and averaged 279c, while those returning to the paddock hit 311c and averaged 304c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 295c and averaged 285c, up 2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restocker buyers earned to 275c and averaged 254c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 294c and averaged 266c, while those to restockers reached 292c and averaged 275c/kg. Grown steers sold to 280c and averaged between 268c and 271c/kg. The 2 score store cows earned to 190c and averaged between 170c and 179c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows made to 235c and averaged 220c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows topped at 250c and averaged 244c/kg.
