Roma Store 24 November 2014: Heat slows mustering

Weekly NLRS Roma Store Sale commentary

Yarding 3449 Change -3851

Hot weather conditions appeared to slow cattle mustering and total numbers penned declined from the previous week. Young, light cattle dominated the yarding with fewer restocker buyers in attendance. But despite fewer restockers present, the demand remained solid for good quality steers and heifers to producers with failed crops for livestock feed. An extra feedlot buyer was present this week and boosted competition for medium and heavy weight yearling steers. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed were firm to dearer in price on average.

Light weight yearling steers made to 224c and averaged 194c, while medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 214c and averaged 193c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 209c and averaged 199c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to processors reached 178c and averaged 158c, while those returning to the paddock hit 188c and averaged 162c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 175c and averaged 162c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 172c and averaged 168c/kg.
