Weekly NLRS Roma Sale commentary

Yarding 6700, Change -5300

Cattle numbers returned to normal after the previous weeks very large yarding. There were a few lines of quality lightweight yearling steers, and they sold to 214c/kg, but most were plainer sorts. A full panel of feedlot buyers were operating on heavy weight yearling steers and good quality lines reached 189c/kg. Restocker buyers were operating selectively on the light and medium weight yearling steers. The feedlot buyers displayed solid competition for medium weight yearling heifers and prices improved 2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers sold to similar prices week-on-week, although the good quality lines to southern processors improved in price. Most store conditioned cows were slightly dearer in price.

Good calves sold to 167c, with most selling between 130c and 160c/kg. Light weight yearling steers reached 214c and averaged 190c, down 9c, while plainer lines averaged 153c, down 6c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feedlot buyers made to 188c and averaged 181c, down 4c, while D muscled sorts averaged 157c/kg. Those returning to the paddock sold to 187c and averaged 176c, down 9c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed topped at 189c and averaged 183c, down 1c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers topped at 159c and averaged 136c, down 3c, while a few quality sorts sold to southern processors for up to 140c and averaged 137c, up 17c/kg. Those to restocker buyers made to 150c and averaged 136c, down 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 157c and averaged 141c, down 2c, while those returning to the paddock earned to 156c/kg.

Light weight 2 score cows sold well and reached 107c, with most selling between 88c and 97c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 124c and averaged 118c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $770/unit.

 

Weekly Roma Store Sale press report

A total of 6700 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 214c/kg and averaged 174c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 204c/kg and averaged 169c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 204c/kg and averaged 163c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 188c/kg and averaged 172c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 189c/kg and averaging 175c/kg.

M & C Packer, Hartwood, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 214c/kg for 195kg to return $417/head. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 136c for 232kg to return $315.

Andrew Ford, Lewah, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 204c for 292kg to return $596. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 159c for 304kg to return $484.

C, D, R, & M Harland, Glenolive, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 204c for 262kg to return $535.

G & G Burey, Springhill, Amby, sold Charolais-cross steers to 195c for 261kg to return $517.

Adam Walker, Rosedale, Longreach, Santa-cross steers to 192c for 295kg to return $567.

Southampton Partnership, Southampton, St George, sold Santa-cross steers to 190c for 300kg to return $570.

Tedlands Pastoral, Nunbank, Taroom, sold Droughtmaster steers to 189c for 415kg to return $786.

J, E, & N McEwan, Wyoming, Roma, sold Cross Bred steers to 187c for 428kg to return $801.

Lockerbie Farms, Bindi, Wallumbilla, sold Simmental steers to 185c for 260kg to return $481. The Simmental-cross heifers sold to 150c for 277kg to return $417.

R & D Loughnan, Alicker, Roma, sold Charbray-cross steers to 180c for 356kg to return $642.

H, D, & J Stewart, Wycombe, St George, sold Braford steers to 173c for 373kg to return $646. The Braford-cross heifers sold to 144c for 357kg to return $515.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 157c/kg and averaged 134c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 162c/kg and averaged 133c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 150c/kg and averaged 126c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 140c/kg and averaged 122c/kg.

Ridgelands Grazing, Ridgelands, Injune, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 157c for 391kg to return $615.

Wallabella, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 150c for 292kg to return $438.

C & R Ramsy, Kinkell, Roma, sold Angus-cross heifers to 145c for 281kg to return $408.

Valley Downs Pastoral Co, Craig Gowan, Roma, sold Hereford-cross heifers to 143c for 299kg to return $428.

Moorlands Grazing Co, Moorlands, Blackall, sold Angus-cross heifers to 140c for 243kg to return $341.

Cows over 500kg sold to 131c/kg and averaged 113c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 125c/kg and averaged 101c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 125c/kg and averaged 77c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $770/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 162c/kg and average 111c/kg.
